The birding haven awaits you! Birding in Entebbe is so fulfilling as you have a range of habitats; the water shores, swamps, forested areas, and roadside birds. As you head out for this tour, be sure to see so many bird species including the most sought after; Shoebill stork and you will be amazed at its antics while trying to prey of fish and other animals in the swamp. Look out for African jacana, white-browed Robin-chat, various sunbirds, Lapwings and so much more.

Day 1: Entebbe 

After an early breakfast, we shall drive to the Uganda Wildlife Education centre in Entebbe for our initial birding experience. The home to about 100 animal species well taken care of, is home to about 170 bird species including the newly found Pectoral sandpiper which is believed to have migrated from South America. The zoo is divided into various vegetation and habitat kinds. You will see an artificial habitat for swamp birds, forest birds, and also water birds as we stroll through.

In here, we expect to see the Swamp Flycatcher, Snow-headed Robin-Chat, Orange Weaver, African Ground Thrush, Black-and-white Casqued hornbill, Red-chested Sunbird, Swamp Flycatcher, African paradise flycatcher, Splendid Starling, Olive-bellied Sunbird, African Blue Flycatcher, Black-and-white Shrike-flycatcher, White-throated Bee-eater, Common Sandpiper, Ross’ Turaco, Veilloit’s Black Weaver, Crowned hornbill, Egyptian Goose, African-wattled Lapwing, Black-winged Stilt, Grey-crowned Crane among others.

After our birding walk, we shall return to the hotel for lunch and relaxation. We have options to visit the beach or shopping mall to buy a few necessities and relax a bit. In the evening, it is time to bird around the hotel or possibly visit the Botanical gardens.

Day 2: Mabamba swamp Entebbe

After an early breakfast, drive out to Mabamba swamp for birding in the home to the elusive shoebill stork. Most of the birding will be done while on a canoe on the swamp. On arrival, get onto a canoe for an unforgettable experience. In the swamp, you have chances to see the most sought bird in Uganda today; The Shoebill stork.  Among the others are; Fulvous whistling Duck, Pygmy goose, Flappet Lark, Rufous-napped Lark, White-browed Coucal, Diedrick Cuckoo, White-shouldered Tit, African Jacana, Common waxbill, Yellow-billed Duck, Goliath Heron, Squacco Heron, Little Bee-eater, and so many others.

Day 3: Entebbe to Mabira forest

Now we know that birding is best in the early morning, we shall therefore move out of the hotel pretty early heading Eastwards to Mabira forest; Uganda’s biggest rainforest. The bird haven gives us the chance to sight: Nahan’s Francolin, Buff-spotted Woodpecker, Yellow-crested Woodpecker, Yellow-spotted Barbet, Grey-throated Barbet, Blue-breasted Kingfisher, African-Dusky Flycatcher, and so many others. If you are interested, you could indulge in a zipline and other extra activities in the forest. At a later time, we shall then return to Kampala or Entebbe.
