7 – Day Rwanda Safari

Arrival at Kigali international airport, your first contact to Rwanda, the land of a thousand hills where you will meet your driver and safari guide from Ntungo Wildlife safaris. After meeting, you will embark o a 3 hour journey to Musanze, depending on the time of arrival of your flight.

An early rise today, drive to the park headquarters for briefing, after which you will proceed for gorilla trekking. This exercise is guided by a specialized guide. Volcanoes national park is home to part of the endangered Gorilla population. The walk is quite strenuous so be ready for a day filled with fun and hurdles. After completing the exercise, return to the hotel for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

After a relaxed late breakfast, drive to Lake Kivu, one of the Great lakes which is at the border of Rwanda and Democratic republic of Congo in the Albertine rift. It empties into the River Ruzizi and flows southwards into Lake Tanganyika. Here you will have some time to relax and bask in the sun while the tides of the lake strike your skin. You have opportunities for a boat cruise and a village walk towards the brewery.

Today is an all-day relaxation time. Chances of having a village walk or relaxing in the hotel all day.

Transfer from Lake Kivu to the mighty rain forest, Nyungwe forest. Nyungwe forest is south from Kivu lake and is another of Rwanda’s rain forests. This is home to a number of Chimpanzees, and 12 other primate species including the endemic Ruwenzori black and white colobus monkey, so many bird species to view. You will drive with some stops enroute to appreciate the beautiful landscape of Rwanda. On reaching Nyungwe, you will check in into the lodge as you prepare for the chimpanzee tracking tomorrow.

Early drive to the park headquarters to have a briefing and then continue to the tracking point. The driver will be waiting or you until the exercise is completed. Later, transfer to the lodge and in the evening you have a chance to walk around in the villages or the tea plantation at the lodge or better still, the Igishigishsigi canopy walk in this very forest. It is a very refreshing walk as you climb up to the top of the hill where the walk happens.

After breakfast, drive northwards to Kigali for your return flight back home. This will entirely depend on the time of your flight. On your way, you have the chance to visit the various Genocide memorials which will give you more information about the political history of Rwanda and how they are moving on after such a big trauma.
