This trip will give you an exciting feel and experience of Uganda’s birding trails. Uganda is haven as it is home to 1070 different bird species. This is 50% of Africa’s birds and 10% of the world’s bird population. This trip will give you chances to look out for the papyrus swamp birds, riverine forested area birds and agricultural birds.

8 Day Uganda Birding Tour

On arrival, you will meet with the Ntungo Safaris Guide who will transfer you to the hotel. Depending on the time of arrival, you have chances to visit the botanical gardens for the foundation birding.

After our early breakfast, we shall head out to Mabamba swamp in search for the Shoebill stork, papyrus gonolek, the African jacana, herons, egrets, plovers, sparrows and many more. We shall drive first then alight and take a boat through the swamp in the papyrus covered areas looking out for the water birds.

Today we shall transfer from Entebbe driving southwards to Lake Mburo National Park. The woodland park of Uganda has various bird species to offer. On arrival, we shall check into the lodge then go for a boat cruise on which we shall look out for birds. These could include: The African fish eagle, grey crowned crane, brown chested wattled plover, papyrus yellow warbler, grey snipe. tabora cisticola among others.

In the evening we shall then have a game drive as we head back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Morning nature walk in the park coupled with visiting a nearby village to learn about the long-horned cattle in the area. On the way, birding is a must and therefore we shall have various stops looking out for birds.

After breakfast, we shall head out to Kibale forest national park. This is Uganda’s primate capital; home to Chimpanzees, mangabeys, colobus monkeys. She is also a habitat for forest birds including: Great blue turaco, Rwenzori Turaco, Green-breatsed Pitta, white-naped Pigeon and so many others. On arrival, you will proceed for birding in the Bigodi swamp for a community based walk which happens to give fulfilling bird sights.

In the morning, we shall bird around the park as we view the various crater lakes or if it is to your liking, we shall have Chimpanzee tracking.
In the afternoon we shall go to Semuliki national park for more birding and viewing of the male and female hot springs. The park has various bird species some of which are endemic to the Albertine rift, like: the white thigh hornbill, long tailed Hawk, Lyre-tailed Honey guide, Black-wattled hornbill, Congo serpent eagle, just to mention a few.
You might be lucky to spot: white throated blue sparrow, common stonechat, western Nicator, Eurasian Oystercatcher, Grant’s bluebill, red-thighed sparrowhawk, black Saw-wing, Shining-blue Kingfisher, White-bellied Kingfisher, Blue-headed Coucal, Bate’s Nightjar, Gabon woodpecker, Toro Olive Greenbull, hairy-breasted Barbet, just to mention a few.

Today after our lovely breakfast, leave the beautiful town of Fort Portal northwards towards Kampala. On arrival, have an evening at the Ndere center for entertainment, savoury cultural food if time allows.
