6 – Day Primate Safari , Uganda

Your specialized Ntungo Wildlife safaris driver/guide will pick you up from your hotel in Entebbe and introduce you to the experience of a lifetime. You will head to Lake Victoria (the world’s second-largest freshwater lake) for a pre-booked boat ride to the Ngamba Island. You will reach Ngamba in time to feed the primates, will have time to observe the animals while they feed, rest and interact with each other. Chimpanzees are man’s closest relatives and we share 98.8% of man’s DNA. You will have lunch and thereafter take a 2-hour boat trip to see various islands, swim at the equator, visit a fishing village and watch fishermen cast their nets in the evening as the sun sets. You will leave the island and reach in time for dinner and rest in preparation for the next day’s activities.

Your guide will pick you from your hotel and you will embark on a 7-hour journey to Kibale National Park through Fort Portal. Fort Portal is home to formerly the world’s youngest Monarch, in Toro kingdom. This will give you the opportunity to stop by his palace and learn about some amazing cultural norms.

After the cultural visit, continue to Kibale forest and check into your lodge. After the day’s drive, relaxation and dinner.

A very knowledgeable and trained guide will take you through the forest after an early morning briefing. Kibale National Park has over 13 species of primates with several habituated communities of the chimpanzee. And other species of Central African monkey including the Ugandan Mangabey, the Ugandan red colobus, black and white colobus and the blue monkey among others. The bird life in this National Park is very prolific so look out for some flying beauties like the Rwenzori Turaco overhead.

You will be guided on a walk to find one of the habituated families of primates. On finding it, you will have a chance to stand at close proximity and have some shots for an hour.

After this, return to the lodge for lunch and you have an opportunity to have the Bigodi swamp walk. A very exciting walk to know about this primate and haven.

You will travel to Bwindi impenetrable National Park where you will spend the night at your respective lodges. This is a journey of about 7 hours. Some stops on the way are guaranteed for sightseeing and a packed lunch.

After an early morning breakfast, your driver will take you to the starting point where you will be briefed. You will head out to look for a family of habituated mountain gorillas and will start Gorilla trekking with a trained guide. You will spend the rest of the day in the forest, searching and viewing. Bwindi impenetrable has over 340 individual primates, half of the world’s Mountain Gorilla population. There are 120 species of mammals and 348 bird species. It is also the most diverse forest in east Africa with 1000 flowering plant species you will see primate including Colobus monkeys, chimpanzees and for bird lovers, a chance to view birds such as hornbills and Turacos and other Albertine rift birds. On finding the beautiful family of gorillas, you will have a chance to take some close photo shots.
